New VW Beetle / Bug inspired Cushion

It’s taken me a while to get this how I wanted it but I’ve finally managed to make a crocheted Beetle Cushion! I hope you like it!

I’m hoping to get the pattern written up soon and will add it to the shop so please keep watching 🙂

Hug-a-Bug, the crocheted Beetle

Who can resist the classic VW Beetle? My Husband had an orange Beetle as his first car.  My eldest son, now 17, wants a Beetle as his first car too!

With it’s friendly shape, the VW Beetle was the inspiration for my latest crochet pattern, the Hug-a-Bug.  As with most classic cars, he has been a labour of love.  It took some working out but I’m quite pleased with the result and I really hope you like him too.

You can make your own Hug-a-Bug using our instantly downloadable PDF crochet pattern so you don’t even need to wait for the postman!

To make your Hug-a-Bug you’ll need Chunky Yarn (I used Wendy Merino Chunky and Wendy Serenity Chunky), oddments of double knitting yarn, a 3.5 and 4.5mm hook and some toy stuffing.
I used 130g/182 metres of red, 100g/140 metres of purple, 10g/14 metres of cream and 20g/28 metres of grey in Chunky and oddments of orange, silver grey, red and cream in Double Knit.

I’m based in the UK so my patterns are all written in UK terms.

We love seeing photos of things you’ve made using our patterns so please feel free to share them on our Facebook and Pinterest Pages!

Campervan Themed Knit and Crochet Kits now on the website!

Phew! It’s been a little hectic lately!
I had lots of design commissions for “Wendy” Yarns
Then we had Yarndale which was a wonderful woolly festival here in Skipton!
So many people at Yarndale were already buying Christmas presents (sorry, am I allowed to say the “C” word in October?!?) that I thought I’d better get my act together and add some kits to our website.
The result is that we now have yarn kits available for the
Bay
and Splitscreen Campervan Shoulder Bags
Splitty Crocheted Campervan Shoulder Bag
Campervan Hot Water Bottle Cover
Campervan Hot Water Bottle Kit
Crocheted Splitty Campervan Cushion

and last but not least the

Knitted Splitty, Bay and Beetle Cushions.

All available in a variety of colours and with or without needles/hooks!
Of course you don’t have to give them as Christmas Gifts – you can just keep them all to yourself 😉
Have fun!

VW Campervan themed knitting kits just in time for Christmas

We’ve just added some Campervan and Beetle themed knitting kits to our website in case your looking for that extra “little something” for your Christmas gift list.

Whether you decide to keep it for yourself or gift it as a special gift is entirely up to you!

Each kit contains yarn, a pattern and a gift bag just in case you do decide to give it away!

You can choose to have a Beetle, a Bay Campervan or a Splitty Campervan Cushion Cover or maybe you would prefer to have a Campervan Bag which can also be used a a tablet cover for anything up to Apple iPad size!

At £15 for a cushion kit and £12 for a bag kit hopefully it won’t break the bank either.

Happy knitting!

Make our Knitting Patterns your own by personalising them

I love the fact that people use our patterns as a guideline, making them personal by using their own colours and adding embellishments.

I just wanted to share a couple with you.

First is a Beetle Cushion Cover which Alison adapted to look like her own VW Beetle, Bluey.  I think she has done a fantastic job!

Next is this version of our Campervan Blanket (Combined Splitty and Bay patterns) made by Eva.  I love it!  Its cheerful summer colours just make you want to dash to the beach (though maybe I’ll wait for Summer to come back before I do).

Eva made it for her son and I think it looks fantastic.

Yarndale and a new Campervan Pattern

Wow! What a weekend!  Who else went to Yarndale?  There was so much lovely stuff on offer it’s probably just as well I was on the Slightly Sheepish stall and not able to wander around spending because the goodies on offer were very VERY tempting!

I hope all of you who visited managed to get what you came for and more!

I’m already looking forward to next year.

I did manage to get my new pattern printed out for the occasion but didn’t get as far as putting it on the website until today so…

TaDa!

Here it is, a Campervan Bag based on the VW Splitty.  I made it in Freedom Echo Cotton which is made from recycled cotton fibres.  It only took 3 x 50g balls to make so you might even have some yarn at home that needs converting into something useful.  I’ve made it so it’s big enough to fit an iPad in but as my Hubby is the only one with an iPad in our house, he’d probably notice its absence and guess where I’d hidden it!

Hope you like it 🙂

Doodling with yarn

Sat at HandPicked Hall yesterday I started doodling with yarn, like you do, and found myself crocheting a flower garland (or is it bunting?).  Either way, it helped to keep me occupied and also seemed a good way to use up this odd bits of yarn.  I thought you might like to have a go yourselves so I’m sharing it by posting the pattern for free download on our website.  I’d love to see any photos so please share them on our blog, Facebook or Twitter accounts.crochet flower garland 001

Is it Spring yet?

Well, the weather here in Skipton, North Yorkshire had been very undecided as has my wardrobe!  Not quite ready to pack away the winter woollies yet.

With Spring in mind I designed and made this crocheted flower cushion cover earlier in the year and took it to Handpicked Hall where it had so many people asking if I had a pattern for it that, well, I had to make a pattern for it!  If you would like to make one yourself, you can get the pattern for £1.99 from our website and if you do make one we would love to see a picture either here on our blog or on our Facebook page

Happy crocheting

Going Slightly Sheepish

We have evolved into Slightly Sheepish having dipped our toes into the world of the VW Campervan with SnuginaDub and discovered along the way that many of its devoted followers, like ourselves, love making things.  We came up with some little felt craft kits to make Dangly Dubs and some knitting patterns to make VW inspired woolly creations.  We have also found cross stitch kits and knitting kits.

We also found some gorgeous knitting needles and crochet hooks, not to mention wonderful yarn from the lovely people at Thomas B. Ramsden who make Wendy and Twilleys of Stamford Knitting Yarn. Knit a VW Campervan Egg Cosy
