PDF Crochet Pattern for a Campervan Beanie Hat

£2.50

I just had to have a go at a campervan hat with wheels!

Here we have a crocheted version made using chunky yarn so it crochets up quickly.

I wanted to stop the “lean” that you can get when working 2 colours in a round so I used a technique called “waistcoat stitch” or “shallow single crochet” for the windows.  It’s worked like a standard double crochet (single crochet if you’re in the US) but instead of putting the hook into the top loops of the stitch of the previous row, you insert it into the centre of the “v”.  There are lots of YouTube tutorials by various people if you want to look before you leap!

The hat took just 125g of chunky yarn, 50g in cream, 50g in red and 25g in blue.  I then used oddments of black and silver grey for the wheels. The yarn I used had 80 metres of yarn per 50g ball.  I used a 6mm hook.

The main stitch is Double Crochet (I’m in the UK but if you’re in the US, the main stitch is Single Crochet).  There is some shaping in the form of working 2 stitches together.

I’ve added a colour chart to help but you’ll need to refer to the actual pattern for shaping references.
